This term our Sixth Formers have made some brilliant contributions to the school community, with some highlights being Black History Month, World Mental Health Day, Celebrating Diversity Week and Enterprise Day. A huge well done to our new Student Leadership team, who have made a real impact this term already!

Well done to Ruben from Class of 2023 (pictured above)! He is currently studying at the University of Nottingham and came back to William Perkin on Friday 5th December to raise money for Amnesty International. He provided some amazing snacks to staff who were busy with Q2 marking and moderation, and from staff donations was able to raise over £500! He aims to complete a 6 day hike to Machu Picchu later this year. We have included the QR code if you would like to donate as well. Well done again, Ruben!

Black History Month was a focus in October. Most of our students were able to attend a live assembly with other schools in the country, coming together to mark the 70th anniversary of Rosa Parks’ inspirational act of defiance. Here are some of the other things that happened:

Celebrating Diversity Week this term was focused on our diverse worldviews. There were a range of discussions and talks in the chapel, different competitions and recommendations of books, podcasts and TV shows.

Enterprise Day raised over £2000 for The Salvation Army, Save The Children’s Gaza Appeal and Hurricane Melissa Relief. Students wore PJs to school and the Y12s distributed candy canes with messages and organised a cake sale. Lots of the KS3 students made Christmas cards during their lunch time in the LRC.

We also collected a large number of toys for The Salvation Army, which will be donated to children in the Greenford area who might otherwise not receive Christmas presents this year.

Our World Mental Health Day cake sale raised over £100 for Samaritans. Our 6th form wellbeing team also put together some information about mental health and sold green ribbons to raise awareness. They have since continued to support our students in the lead up to Q2, holding stalls focused on topics such as sleep hygiene and healthy habits.
