Selected students in Year 10 and Year 11 will be participating in a new initiative called Girls in DataThis series of workshops are designed for girls aged 11-17 and aim to show how exciting a career in data can be. Girls will be introduced to practical skills such as data visualization, coding, AI ethics & design, and soft skills that are vital in the industry. These unique sessions are delivered by Women in Data who serve as role models, sharing their personal journeys and lessons learned.

Workshop 1

Introduction to Girls in Data and Women in Data;

  • Overview of the Girls in Data and Women in Data organizations.
  • Discussion on stereotypes and societal biases that discourage women and girls from pursuing STEAM fields and careers in tech.
  • Presentation of key statistics and research to highlight the current state of gender diversity in these fields.

Workshop 2

Introduction to Data Science and AI

  • What is Data Science?
  • An overview of the profession of a Data Scientist and its importance in the modern world.
  • Explanation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), with practical examples to make these concepts 

 Workshop 3

Data Visualization and Power BI

  • Hands-on session on data visualization, focusing on its importance in storytelling and decision-making.
  • Practical work using Power BI to create visualizations from datasets.
