...this was something the students learnt from Dr Emma Slater (Interim Student Recruitment Manager), who gave an interesting talk about SHMS (School of Health and Medical Sciences).
On Friday 8 May, The Elite Scientists presented their research findings on their project: " Effect of various emotive stories on the pulse pressure of Year 7-9 Students ” via a talk with their poster, to their fellow peers and academics at Saint George's, University of London.
They elicited a lot of courage to do this!! Well done!
9:30-10:20 School students presentation rehearsal
10:20-10:30- Welcome to City St. George's
10:30-11:00- Students presentation and questions
11:10-11:30- Dr Emma Slater, giving a talk about SHMS degrees. (School of Health and Medical Sciences)
12:30-13:00- Paramedic Simulation
13:00- 13:30- Campus tours
13:30-14:10- Anatomy suite
The students really enjoyed their day, however they were very excited about the paramedic simulation rooms, where they were in a simulated snowy forest and fireworks in a city. They also got to see the anatomy room, where they saw virtual bodies on a screen, that were originally real! They also got to see the veins and arteries in their lower arms using ultrasound!! (no cameras were allowed there – sorry folks)
It was a great day, well done to everyone!
Amazing talks, amazing library, and amazing paramedic simulation!!
Thank you to:
Dr Clara Cieza-Borrella for organising the day, all the Saint George's staff named above with Marina Adjei’s help as STEM Ambassador, Krisztina Losonci for her involvement with the Elite Scientists. Ms. Shaw for accompanying me on the trip.
Ms Kapila, Science Teacher and Leader of Elite Scientists
