Wow! There are 28 senses!Really?!
This is what we found out on Tuesday 15 October, which saw the launch of the Elite Scientist Project for 2024-25. The project will be run by Krisztina Losonci and Valeria Perboni, who have both worked with Brunel University, as well as other academic institutions on Synaesthesia.
The project will be "Investigating the Synaesthetic Elements in Non-Synaesthetic Students of Years 7-9". The students will be using The MyndPlayer Pro App, in conjunction with the Myndplay EEG brain set, which was funded by the Royal Society and the Armourers and Brasiers. Whilst recording their brain waves, the students will for example be smelling scent as an input, and creating an artistic output with drawing. We are hoping to see an increased gamma wave response, as this is elicited mainly in Synaesthetic subjects. It was an apt week to talk about memory and the brain as well, as it was Q1 Exam week. There seemed to be enthusiasm from the students about the project in general, so hopefully there will be lots of applications, which will be good news. It's all very exciting! Can't wait for it to all begin!
Thanks to all the staff who supported the event, and thanks to Ms Bennet for the technical help.
Thank you also to Valeria Perboni and Krisztina Losinci for their time and expertise. We all look forward to working with them this year!
Thanks,
Ms Kapila
